cattiness = wonderful

so it's official: i have waaaaaay too much time on my hands these days. but when all you have to do with your day is work out, clean the apartment and the occasional freelance assignment, you have plenty of time for awesomeness like this:

seriously, it's cracking me up. i only wish that the link to tess smith's emmy outfit from last year weren't broken. from the looks of this year, however, it seems that woman needs her head examined. talk about leaving practically nothing to the imagination, girl. sheesh.

my first party!

so, for just having moved to a new city, and while still not knowing a heck of a lot of people here in town yet, i still managed to throw a fairly kickass, well-attended party this past weekend:

beautiful flowers roger sent!

mood lighting...

roger and a bunch of women... shocker...

brandon's shirt almost matches my couch, fun

ahem, maertens, you definitely owe brink dinner now...

we love terrance and cody!

brooke and grant prove that our carpet is comf.

who knew andy dick could be funny? certainly not me... until NOW.

it's parrrrrty time!

now that avril and i are pretty settled here in cola, we're having our first party! it's a housewarming, on saturday, and we just can't wait. my friend roger from g'town is coming in town for the weekend, and no one knows how to party as well as that guy -- even more reason to have a fiesta. and as if i need a reason to drink wine and make fancy hors d'oeuvres... can't wait! aaron, cola's preeminent party-giver and host, we will miss you greatly and shall try to meet the high standard you have set for all other cola-based entertainers.

the spot

okay, so some of the walls are still a bit bare (you'd struggle too if you had 13-foot ceilings to deal with) but we LOVE our new place:

europe photos -- II

okay, here are some from bratislava and croatia. enjoy!

a night out in bratislava, slovakia... we met up with a wild bunch of irishmen, so we needless to say had a long, exciting night. good times!

slovakia's equivalent to our white house... we just walked right in, no big gates or anything. so their view on presidential security is just a tad different...

me on the street in the old town of bratislava. it was rainy, but it's a beautiful, quaint town.

the view from our doorway in dubrovnik, croatia... need i say more? outstanding.

brink and me atop the old city walls, dubrovnik, croatia. we walked the entired 2.5 miles around the old city -- breathtaking views.

view from the dubrovnik city walls. could the water be any more blue? i think not.

dinner out in dubrovnik, joined by friends abbie and brooke. twice the fun!

the view from our window in dubrovnik... it was so amazing, to just leave the windows open and hear the faint noises from the street below, to feel the oceanic breeze. don't you want to go?

europe photos -- I

okay, here are a few more from the scotland portion of the trip... let me know if you'd like a link to the entire snapfish collection! i'll follow up with slovakia, croatia, germany and france in a little bit.

helensburgh, scotland (our first stop... it was absolutely gorgeous, overlooking the water. and the people couldn't have been nicer)

skipness, scotland (i thought it appropriate to skip there, so i did... beautiful
old castle)

brink at knocknaha, scotland, his family's ancestral home

our favorite pub in oban, scotland (lots of local flavor, plus a yachting convention, to boot!)

me near the town of kinnaird, scotland,
my ancestral home (yes, i know: we are geneology dorks... but it's still pretty cool)

us at st. andrews, scotland (yes, that is where prince william went to school. no, we didn't see him there. yes, i was sad about it)

my new home, cola

(note 1: i have now officially abandoned capitalization. it takes too much time. yes, i know: this is ridiculous for someone who makes a living writing and editing flawless copy. but frankly i'm lazy, when it comes down to it, and i'm not going to give up yet on punctuation, so no worries there. just wanted to keep y'all informed.)

i'm feeling more and more here in south carolina. i know where most things are -- i mean, i've got the grocery store and banana republic down, so i don't think there's much more to say on that -- and the apartment is pretty much set up. of course, it took nearly three weeks for me to even get my furniture --

(note 2: if you are planning a move of any type, DO NOT use giant van lines. they seem nice on the front end, and the mover guys themselves will do a great job packing up your things. but they are an absolute and total nightmare when it comes down to the delivery and all of that. at one point, i actually threatened them with a lawsuit and had "my attorney" a.k.a. my cousin to call them up and threaten them, which actually got their attention, i think, in the end. anyway, just don't use them, mmkay?)

but my roommate avril is an interior decorating whiz, so the place looks great and is almost completely put together. i've yet to cook a meal here yet, but i'm working on that for this evening, so as long as the oven etc. cooperates, then i'm happy as can be.

i'm off to the gym (i've actually lost about 5 pounds since i've been here -- maybe my body is just happy to be back in the south, or something, but it seems to have been pretty good for my health) for now, but more to come. i just got a new olympus digital camera, with 8 megapixels, so i'll post some fun new photos soon!
